HARRY AKKER
1931 — 2002

Most club members would be aware of the tragic passing of Harry Akker during the A Reserve fixture competition on Wednesday 2nd October 2002. Harry has been a long time member of the Gold Coast Table Tennis Association and truly was a 'character' of both the club and the game. We will certainly miss his positive outlook on life, his cheerful sense of humour, and his famous discussions in relation to 'garage players'.

Many table tennis players attended Harry's funeral, from the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Wynnum, Logan, and Lismore clubs. This really was an indication of Harry's involvement in table tennis, and how respected he was in all of the clubs. Mr Anthony Jeffress, the immediate past President of Brisbane Table Tennis Association, and long time friend of Harry's spoke on behalf of all of the clubs at the funeral, and provided all people present with memories of Harry's love of, and contribution to the game of table tennis.

In memory of Harry, the club now runs a monthly 'Harry Akker Memorial' Handicap Tournament.

Rest in Peace, Harry.
